John Haitt is one of the most highly respected American singer songwriters. His career started in 1974 when he wrote "Sure as I'm Sittin' Here", which became a top 40 hit for Three Dog Night. Unfortunately, Haitt's recordings of his own songs weren't nearly as popular as when other artists recorded them. Through the years, those artists include Aaron Neville, B.B. King, Bob Dylan, Bonnie Raitt, Buddy Guy, Chaka Khan, Dave Edmunds, Delbert McClinton, Emmylou Harris, Eric Clapton, Iggy Pop, Jewel, Jimmy Buffett, Keith Urban, Joe Bonamassa, Joe Cocker, Linda Ronstadt, Mandy Moore, and scores more. Hyatt's lack of commercial and critical success changed 1987, when he released "Bring the Family". With songs that echo the roots of American music and with the help of Ry Cooder's exceptional guitar and slide playing along with Hiatt's good friend Nick Lowe on bass (who lent his talents for free, since Hyatt had been given such a small budget for the record). the album effortlessly melds blues, country, rock, pop, and other influences into an amazing rootsy collection that became the definitive album of John Hiatt's career.
